PEST CONTROL TIPS FOR HOMEOWNERS

  1. Make sure all outside doors have good weather stripping and sealed.  If you can see light around a door, insects can enter.
  2. Check your attic to ensure all gable and soffit vents are screened to prevent the entry of rodents and other pests into the attic.
  3. Have all stored boxes sealed up to prevent insects and rodents from nesting inside.
  4. Don’t leave pet food or water out overnight.
  5. Check boxes and packages for pests hiding in them before bringing into the house.
  6. Repair torn window and door screens.
  7. Caulk all cracks and crevices such as around conduits, pipes, window frames and other openings where pests may enter the home.
  8. Trim trees and shrubs from touching the home.
  9. Remove debris from gutters and ensure that drains divert water away from the structure.
  10. Make sure weather-stripping along garage door is in good condition and keep door closed as much as possible to keep pests from running into the garage.
  11. Lower soil around foundation so that at least 3-4 inches are visible.  If the soil is too high termites may enter the home without being seen.
  12. Irrigation systems should be checked to insure that they do not spray up on the structure nor allow for puddling against the structure.
  13. Drip lines from air conditioners should be diverted at least 2 feet away from the foundation.
  14. Keep all garbage cans clean and lids on to keep rodents and other pests from feeding and breeding in the garbage.
