Bug Bite Guide We are constantly amidst some type of insect whenever we decide to enjoy the great outdoors. There are a number of kinds of bites you can get, and it's important to know what the most common types look like so you can decide how to treat it or if you need to go to the doctor. Here's a list of the most common bug bites you can get, including their appearance and symptoms. Mosquito bites appear as red swollen bumps on the skin. You can have many in one area. One thing to be careful of is the possible diseases that can be transmitted by mosquitos. Fly bites are quite common and can be pretty painful. Sand fly bites are painful and may cause red bumps and blisters. Tsetse fly bites are painful and appear as red bumps. Deer flies use their sharp teeth to bite into the skin and suck the blood that flows out. People usually get flea bites on their lower legs and feet. They turn into itch, red bites that are surrounded by a red halo. Chigger bites can be extremely itchy, and are usually grouped together. They generally appear as welts, hives, pimples, or blisters. Tick bites can transmit Lyme disease, and there is usually pain and/or swelling at the site of the bite. They can remain attached to the skin for a long time, and symptoms could include a rash, burning sensation, or blisters. Spider bites usually show two puncture marks, which may cause pain and burning. You may also develop a blister that will burst to reveal an ulcer. There is often pain, itching, and redness around the bite, and you could see a red/purple blister or rash. Fire ant stings appear as red spots with a blister in the center. The stings, which are itchy and painful can last up to a week. Have you experienced any of these bites recently? How do you treat them?
