Raccoon Pest Control

Raccoons are highly intelligent animals, and incredibly skilled at opening garbage cans, tearing into containers, and finding their way into properties. If you have a raccoon infestation, it is best to contact a professional—attempting to remove wild animals on your own is difficult and dangerous.

At GGA Pest Management, we provide humane residential and commercial raccoon pest control services. We understand that raccoons are unique and will come prepared with a thorough treatment plan, all the necessary equipment, and proven exclusion strategies that account for their behavior, nesting habits, and resourcefulness.

Problems Caused By Raccoons

Raccoons are not uncommon, especially if you live in urban or suburban areas. However, once they’ve made their way onto or into your property, they can:

Damage Your Property

Raccoons often tear through roofing, soffits, and vents to gain entry into homes. They can damage important areas in the process, like your insulation and ductwork, and may use nearby materials from inside or outside to create dens and make the space more comfortable.

Spread Disease

Raccoons leave behind droppings and urine that can carry harmful bacteria and parasites. They’re also known carriers of rabies, a potentially fatal disease that poses serious risks to both people and pets.

Become Aggressive

When raccoons feel cornered, threatened, or are protecting their young, they can become defensive and may bite or scratch. These encounters should be taken seriously due to the risk of disease transmission.

Disrupt Your Home and Peace of Mind

Raccoons are nocturnal mammals, meaning they are most active at night and may cause scratching, thumping, and movement sounds in attics or walls. This constant noise can disrupt your sleep and create a sense of unease, making environments feel stressful and uncomfortable.

Learn More About Raccoon Management

Causes
  • Accessible Food Sources: Raccoons are opportunistic omnivores and will eat whatever is available, including trash, pet food, bird seed, garden produce, and even small mammals. If there are any food sources on your property that they can live on, especially in large quantities, they’ll likely stay nearby.
  • Shelter Opportunities: Raccoons seek out warm, dark, and protected spaces to nest and raise their young. If they find unobstructed or easily accessible attics, chimneys, crawl spaces, wall voids, or even garbage dumpsters and bins, they’ll take advantage of it and settle in quickly.
  • Entry Point Vulnerabilities: Damaged roofing, vents, and small gaps around your home offer a perfect opportunity for raccoons to investigate your space and get inside.
  • Urban, Suburban, & Rural Adaptability: Raccoons are highly adaptable and can thrive in many environments. They often prefer urban and suburban areas due to higher population density, which typically means more food resources, but they can survive in almost any environment.
Treatment

Unlike some raccoon exterminators, GGA focuses on complete and humane pest management for all wildlife. The following are the steps we take during our raccoon control services:

  • Comprehensive Inspections: We carefully assess your property to locate nesting sites around and inside your home or business. We’ll also identify how many raccoons are present, how they’re accessing your property, and other contributing factors that will help us develop a targeted treatment plan.
  • Strategic Removal Methods: Once we understand the situation, we use humane trapping and baiting methods to capture the raccoons and relocate them to appropriate areas. This process can take several days depending on the severity of the issue, and our team will remain actively involved with regular check-ins and service visits to ensure progress.
  • Entry Point Repairs: We seal and reinforce vulnerable areas to block access and prevent raccoons from returning. This can include using materials like heavy-duty mesh, vent covers, and reinforced sealing techniques.
  • Sanitation & Damage Assessment: Once we’re certain all raccoon activity has been eliminated, we help you address any contamination concerns. We can also inspect for any property damage caused by the infestation so you can make the necessary repairs.
Prevention Tips
  • Secure Food Sources: Eliminate as many food attractants as possible by storing trash in sealed containers, keeping pet food indoors, and cleaning up bird seed or fallen garden produce.
  • Routine Property Checks: Regularly inspect your roof, vents, soffits, and foundation for signs of damage or potential entry points.
  • Install Exclusion Measures: Reinforce vulnerable areas with materials such as vent covers, chimney caps, and durable sealing methods to help block access.
  • Ongoing Pest Management: Schedule routine pest control service with a professional to help monitor activity and catch potential issues before they become larger problems.

We had a termite problem and called GGA pest. They sent Tech Daniel Wood out promptly and he confirmed that we had Termites. My wife and I asked him many questions as we thought we were protected by the treatment the build had done. He explained that that only protected the lumber at the periphery of the house not the more interior lumber. That the termites had travel up one of the water pipes coming through the slab and gotten to the interior wood. He treated the house and installed the sentricon system. He was very patient and informative.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, pest control can get rid of raccoons on your property, but long-term results require proper exclusion methods and ongoing prevention. It’s nearly impossible to stop all raccoon activity due to their large populations, but with professional help, you can significantly reduce the chances of them returning or causing future problems.

  • Visible entry holes or torn openings
  • Droppings or strong, unpleasant odors
  • Damaged roofing, soffits, vents, or shingles
  • Raccoon tracks or smudge marks near entry points
  • Garbage cans are tipped over or frequently disturbed
  • Loud scratching, thumping, or movement—especially at night
  • Increased raccoon sightings or seeing raccoons exiting your home
  • Increased pet agitation or barking at walls, ceilings, or outdoor areas

Certain things can make your property less appealing to raccoons, including:

  • Strong Odors: Ammonia, vinegar, cayenne pepper, peppermint oil, or predator scents
  • Bright Lights: Motion-activated floodlights or flashing lights
  • Loud Noises: Radios, banging sounds, or motion-activated noise devices

In some locations, it is legal to kill raccoons, but most professional pest control companies, including GGA Pest Management, use trapping and removal methods.

Here’s what that process looks like:

  1. Trap Setup: Based on information gathered during the inspection, professionals place traps in high-activity areas and common travel pathways. These traps are baited with attractants like pet food, canned fish, marshmallows, or other sweet or protein-rich foods.
  2. Trap Triggers: Once a raccoon enters the trap and triggers the mechanism, it is safely contained without harm. The traps will be checked regularly to ensure they are not left inside for extended periods.
  3. Removal and Relocation: After capture, raccoons are removed and relocated in accordance with local and state regulations.
